Recall Alert: Costco Urges Shoppers to Stop Using

Costco issues recall, urging its members to inspect their purchases following a string of products that have been impacted, ranging from electronics to automotive accessories. The retail giant has issued several notices over the past month, highlighting safety concerns across a wide range of merchandise sold nationwide.

Anker Power Banks, Window AC Units Part of Recall

The most recent warning involves the Anker Power Bank model A1257. Anker has advised all owners to cease using the device immediately due to potential safety issues linked to lithium-ion battery cells from a specific vendor. The recalled unit shares design similarities with the A1263 model, sold between June 2016 and December 2022.

Another flagged product is the Danby 8,000 BTU U-Shaped Window Air Conditioner. Engineers have identified mold risks tied to inadequate water drainage. Additional recalls in the same category have affected models produced by brands including Midea, Comfort Aire, Frigidaire, and Insignia. Midea’s U-Shape Window ACs are under scrutiny, with six models reportedly exhibiting mold buildup due to pooling water.

Tire Failures and Missing Certifications Prompt Vehicle Safety Concerns

Tire recalls also pose a significant safety issue for Costco members. Michelin’s Agilis CrossClimate C-Metric Tires in size 185/60R15C were recalled after failing endurance tests. The problem stems from chunks of tread rubber detaching from the shoulder block. Separately, Bridgestone’s Blizzak 6 Tires (size 235/40R19) were recalled due to the absence of a required Department of Transportation (DOT) seal, which could increase crash risk.

Fitness equipment is not exempt. BowFlex adjustable dumbbells are being pulled due to incidents of weight plates detaching during use. Costco recommends discontinuing use immediately.

Food and Beverage Items Also Hit with Regional Recalls

In the food and beverage category, 18-packs of Topo Chico Mineral Water were recalled from select warehouses across five states. No specific contamination or hazard was cited in Costco’s notice.

Costco reminds customers that limited return windows cover many products. Electronics, for example, must typically be returned within 90 days, while manufacturer warranties may cover other items.

More broadly, 2025 has seen a surge in recalls across multiple industries. The automotive sector alone has experienced over one million recalls. Ford accounted for more than 534,000 vehicles last month, while Nissan issued a recall of 480,000 cars across the U.S. and Canada.

Additional recalls from other retailers include two rounds of ground beef withdrawals by Publix, due to the presence of foreign material. Also pulled from shelves this year were popular vitamin supplements from Target and Walmart, a complete line of defibrillators, and packaged blueberries distributed by Alma Pak International LLC.

The pace and scope of recalls highlight the importance of consumer vigilance, especially when purchasing items with potential safety or performance risks.
